Measurement and pricing details

Backend timing: 4.71 ms request-weighted mean across approximately 87,864 completed RPC observations, from to , rounded to the nearest millisecond. Over 99.9% were address searches; this is not an all-endpoint benchmark. The timer excludes the public API edge, network time and response serialization/delivery. Public and internal callers are not distinguished. Rollouts and missed scrapes limit completeness; this is a dated observation, not a latency guarantee.

Prometheus query (seconds), evaluated at the end of that window:

sum(increase(grpc_server_handling_seconds_sum{job="opengeocoding"}[24h])) / sum(increase(grpc_server_handling_seconds_count{job="opengeocoding"}[24h]))

One successful API request uses one credit. The Starter plan costs $29 per month for 300,000 credits. The displayed rate is rounded and assumes the full monthly allowance is used.

Coverage: the published index coverage report contains streets in 243 named countries and territories. This is an index snapshot based on the September 2026 Overture release, not a live production count or a guarantee of complete house-number coverage. Result storage remains subject to data attribution and license obligations.

Built in the open

Source-available at the core. Managed for you.

Our API runs on OpenGeocoding, the source-available geocoding engine we build and maintain under the PolyForm Shield licence. Explore the code, run it yourself, or let us handle the infrastructure.

Everything you need

One API for every address problem.

Forward geocoding

Messy, multilingual, typo-ridden input in, structured address and coordinates out. libpostal parses addresses the way people actually write them.

Forward geocoding API docs →

Autocomplete

Suggestions as people type, from countries down to house numbers, fast enough to run on every keystroke.

Address autocomplete API →

Reverse geocoding

Any point to the nearest house, street and locality, with ISO 3166-2 regions on every result.

Keep your results

Cache them, store them, put them in your warehouse. No 30-day deletion rules and no surcharge for permanent storage.

Honest confidence

goodMatch is false when only part of the address matched, so you know when to ask the user instead of guessing.

Open data, rebuilt often

Overture Maps, OpenStreetMap, OpenAddresses and GeoNames, merged into one index and rebuilt on a regular schedule.

Claude & MCP

Give your assistant a sense of place.

Look up addresses, turn coordinates into places and resolve regions from your conversation. Connect OpenGeocoding to Claude or another compatible MCP client.

Paste one server URL, sign in and approve access with OAuth. No API key to copy. Your existing plan includes MCP: 50,000 free requests a month, shared with the API.

Pass rates on our test corpus.

The same queries and scoring for every provider, checked against official registries and public reference sources.

Not a global accuracy estimate. Sample sizes and street/house-level testing vary by country; some countries have few or no address-level tests.

These results do not establish accuracy in your market. Try representative addresses from your target countries before choosing a provider.

Methodology and limitations

Expectations come from official registries and public reference sources, not agreement with another geocoder. We score the first result against the same queries, expectations and tolerances for every provider, ignoring provider confidence.

These are test-corpus pass rates, not universal accuracy percentages. Failures and abstentions, including API rejections and normalization failures, stay in the denominator. The matched corpus is every case each listed provider had answered when scored, not a random sample. The US/Canada subset is selected before provider responses; its rates are not directly comparable with the matched-corpus rates.

Country-level accuracy is not established by these aggregates. Street/house-level cases are concentrated in a few countries; many others have only coarser place-level tests. Related query variants are not independent address samples. Per-country pass rates are not published here.

A dated, vendor-run diagnostic benchmark: provider responses collected 17–21 October 2026; OpenGeocoding 0.18.0, the release deployed on 21 October 2026, ran locally on an index built with its builder. Most cases were available during development; on the fifth of locations held out from it, OpenGeocoding 0.18.0 passed 89.6%. Corpus/index source overlap and related query variants limit generalization.

Sources and comparison details

Pricing checked . These are selected entry plans, not quotes for an identical monthly workload. Subscription rates assume full allowance usage, with a 30-day month for daily quotas. Unused allowance increases the effective cost. Volume discounts, tax treatment, regional pricing and billing rules vary.

Pass rates use the same test corpus and scoring as the charts above. Country and address-level coverage is uneven; the aggregate rates do not establish universal accuracy or superiority in any country. No request-latency comparison was measured. Storage and attribution rights depend on the provider's applicable terms; no blanket permission is implied.

$29/month for 300,000 requests. The effective rate assumes the full monthly allowance is used.

  • Geoapify pricing →

API 10 costs $59/month for 10,000 credits/day. A simple geocoding request costs one credit. The effective rate assumes 30 days of full daily usage; batch discounts are excluded. Free-plan attribution and usage conditions apply.

  • OpenCage pricing →

X-Small costs $50/month for 10,000 requests/day. The effective rate assumes 30 days of full daily usage. The free trial is for testing, not production.

  • geocode.maps.co pricing →
