Data attributions
OpenGeocoding is built on open data. When you show results, or data derived from them, to others, credit the sources. A short line is enough:
Data © OpenStreetMap contributors, Overture Maps Foundation, OpenAddresses, GeoNames.
Sources
| Source | What we use it for | Licence |
|---|---|---|
| OpenStreetMap | Streets, places, addresses and boundaries | Open Database License 1.0 |
| Overture Maps Foundation | Addresses, places, divisions and streets | Per theme: CDLA Permissive 2.0, or ODbL where derived from OpenStreetMap |
| OpenAddresses | Addresses in countries where Overture is sparse | Per source; we include only sources whose licence allows commercial use |
| GeoNames | Postcodes and region names | CC BY 4.0 |
| Unicode CLDR | Country names | Unicode License v3 |
| Wikidata | ISO 3166-2 region codes | CC0 1.0 |
Software
Address parsing uses libpostal (MIT). The demo map uses MapLibre GL JS (BSD-3-Clause) with tiles from OpenFreeMap, © OpenMapTiles, data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
About ODbL
ODbL obligations depend on the source data and how you use it. Public use of a produced work can require attribution; public use of a derivative database can also trigger share-alike and database-access obligations. API access does not waive those requirements, and not every use of API results can be classified the same way. Check the applicable source licences and obtain legal advice for your use case.
