Credits & rate limits

The Free plan includes 50,000 successful requests per month at up to 2 requests per second. There is no daily cap. Commercial use and permanent storage of results are included.

JSON, gRPC and MCP calls share the account’s credit balance and per-second limit. Autocomplete and regions remain available with zero credits, but still require authentication and use that same rate limit. Creating more keys does not give you a separate quota or rate bucket.

What spends a credit?

Search, retrieve, reverse and resolve-region each spend one credit on HTTP JSON 2xx or gRPC grpc-status: 0. Autocomplete and regions consume no credits. A successful lookup with no matches still counts. Errors do not.

Completed replies are charged when prepared, before network delivery. Disconnecting during delivery does not refund completed work.

Credits and renewal

The free plan renews monthly from signup. Paid plan credits renew with the billing period. Credit packs expire after 12 months. Active credits are spent soonest-expiring first; unused subscription credits do not roll over.

When no credits remain, billable operations on every plan are blocked with HTTP 429 (resource_exhausted) or gRPC RESOURCE_EXHAUSTED (8). There is no metered overage. Check your balance in the dashboard.

Per-second limits

Rate limits are approximate across our replicas: each replica gets a share of the account’s rate and a small burst allowance. Uneven routing can cause throttling below the nominal account rate; the limit is not a strict global per-second counter. Debounce autocomplete input to stay within your rate limit.

For a rate-limit response, wait for the Retry-After interval before retrying. It reports the rounded-up number of seconds until the responding replica can admit another request, including when the wait exceeds one second. Exhausted credits also return 429, but without this header: retrying will not restore your balance.

Choose a higher plan for more monthly requests and higher throughput. Credit packs increase your credit balance, not your request rate. There are no automatic overage charges.

Request and response limits

  • JSON request bodies: 64 KiB.
  • Search and autocomplete text: 500 characters after trimming; cannot be blank.
  • Backend deadline: 10 seconds. gRPC deadlines can shorten this limit.
